“4-hour workweeks”, “work-life balance”, “optimizing my life”, “I’ll do all my hobbies + 10 side projects + learn new things + enjoy life”…

You’ve probably read all these buzzwords online at least once.

But if you look at how life actually works, it’s the exact opposite. Because balance is a LIE. If you’re just starting out, don’t even try to find it.

Why am I doing all this fear mongering?

The obsession arc vs a more balanced life

Let’s say you work a 9-5 and you actually want to do something else. You don’t have to quit right away. But that means from 5 to 9 or whenever you have a spare minute you have to work on that dream. Do that long enough, and soon you can make the decision to go all-in without worrying about money.

To do that, you literally can’t live a balanced life.

You have to miss out on parties (I don’t go anyway), hangouts with friends, family time, and even your favorite things.

The goal isn’t to grind your whole life. The goal is to sacrifice what you have right now time so you can live great for decades later.

And then, a few years later, the cycle repeats.
